Background & Perspective
I spent 15 years (1996-2009) in the electronics industry, working my way from entry-level positions to designing and managing complex automation systems for high-end residential and commercial clients. That work required both technical competence and the ability to coordinate multiple contractors and systems, skills that have since been utlilzied in other areas of life.
In 2009, feeling burned out after years of non-stop projects, I left Austin for a writers cabin in the mountains of North Carolina. That decision, one that was driven by intuition rather than logic, led to meeting Sara Chou and our collaboration on We Meet Again.
A willingness to consider information from multiple sources, including intuitive insights, and a willingness to consult with advisors of all kinds, is how I approach complex problems. This is why I invest time in research before commiting to a course of action, and why I question established systems when better alternatives exist.
The journey from 2009 to present included:
- Living and traveling internationally (Thailand, Taiwan, Canada) (2012-2017)
- Designing a human input device inspired by Lin Yutang's Chinese typewriter (2014)
- Developing the Personal Server concept (2017)
- Remodeling an Airstream and later an Eagle motorcoach for extended travel (2018-2021)
- Founding Strong Medicine Publishing (2022)
- Researching OLED solid-state lighting technology (2025-present)
Each step in my journey required taking leaps into the unknown, combining intuitive insight with technical expertise, and doing something new...an approach that continues to serve me well.
