I first visited Marfa in the late 1990's, while on a long weekend roadtrip to the Davis Mountains. At the time I had just bought a new VW GTI, and enjoyed driving it so much that the long trek didn't seem so long. Camping near the McDonald Observatory, and visiting towns like Fort Davis and Marfa, left such a lasting impression that I have returned to the area on several occasions.
