We drove thru Missoula on a roadtrip that started and ended on Gabriola Island, BC. We happened to see a notice about this Pow-Wow the day before it was happening, and decided to stay an extra day so we could attend.

It was at the gymnasium of the University of Montana campus, and lasted into the evening. Tribes from all over the country came to the event, showcasing their ancestral dances and costumes, musical instruments, and crafts of all kinds. As people of all ages would perform various traditional dances,  judges would grade their performance and costume, offering awards at the end of the evening.

This photo was taken towards the end, as everyone joined in and danced in a circle around the auditorium floor. We spent several hours just taking it all in. It was good to see so many people, including lots of young people, keeping their traditions alive.
