Work

A childhood interest in engineering and electronics, led to a career designing and implementing high-end electronic systems. For a commercial client it might be a camera, card access or phone system, and a residential client might need an audio-video, automation or lighting control system. The principles were the same for any type of client or system; determine what they hoped to achieve, design a system that fulfilled those needs, then pull together and manage the people and parts needed to implement the system.

Me in 2001

Throughout my career I was fortunate to work with, and learn from, a lot of very talented people. The early mentorship of more experienced co-workers, employers and clients, allowed me to develop not only technical expertise, but most importantly the ability to effectively work with a wide variety of people.

Ultimately I spent much of my career as an independent designer, programmer and consultant to other companies. All work came via referals from previous clients, or others in the industry. In retrospect, it is apparent that synchronicity propelled my working life for nearly 15 years.

Below are a few of the projects (not involving an NDA) that I was involved with during the last few years of my career:

    • (Contract) Programmed and implemented a Crestron automation system at the Austin home of a US Congressional Representative.
    • (Direct) Designed and managed the installation of Crestron automation and Lutron Lighting systems, Phone and Gate Entry systems, and Audio Video systems for a 24,000 sq.ft. house outside of Austin.
    • (Contract) Programmed and implemented a Crestron based interface to Security, Camera and Access Control systems at the Texas Governor's Mansion in Downtown Austin.
    • (Direct) Obtained Canadian work visa and assisted a company in the completion of three Crestron projects for a client in British Columbia, including one aboard a 55' motor yacht.
