The Board
In 2014, while living in Taiwan, Sara and I visited the Lin Yutang Museum. So much about his old home seemed familiar, including pictures of him, and of course his Chinese language typewriter.
Inspiration came after that visit, on many levels, resulting in the design of several Human Input Devices (keyboard and trackpad) for people who's native language is not based on Latin characters. Several years were spent researching and refining both the hardware and software design for a keyboard that enables the surface of keys to act as miniture video displays. It is unlike anything seen to date, uses proven technology, and would be fairly inexpensive to produce.
During the design process I met with several industrial designers, firmware designers, attended several optics trade shows in California, had meetings with an optics manufacturer in upstate NY, discussed molded plastic optics with a manufacturer in Dallas, and made several videos presenting the concept.
However, after all of that upfront work, while exploring the world of venture capital, it became apparent that there are few people interested in hardware products, and those who were had values that were not aligned with mine. Therefore, I decided to put this project on hold and pick it up when it can be privately funded.
